The story follows (Dany Boon), a video-store clerk whose life has been bookended by tragedy. As a child, he lost his father to a landmine; as an adult, a stray bullet becomes permanently lodged in his brain. Jobless and homeless, he is taken in by a band of "junk-yard dogs"—a motley crew of misfits living in a cavernous shelter made of scrap.

When Bazil discovers the two rival arms manufacturers responsible for both the mine and the bullet, he and his new family launch a series of convoluted, hilarious "shenanigans" (the literal translation of micmacs ) to pit the two CEOs against each other.
